The Dallas Morning News Creates Chief Innovation Officer Position

Marketing veteran Laura Gordon will lead innovation work

DALLAS (March 18, 2008) - The Dallas Morning News announced the appointment of Laura Gordon to the newly created position, chief innovation officer. In this role, Gordon is responsible for innovation across the organization. She will also work with sister newspapers owned by A.H. Belo, including The Press-Enterprise (Riverside, Calif.) and The Providence Journal (Providence, R.I.), to facilitate innovation efforts at those properties. Gordon retains her responsibilities as senior vice president of marketing for The News.

"Laura is uniquely qualified to lead our innovation efforts," Moroney said. "She has a perspective that combines her experience in consumer packaged goods and brand management with her work in product development here at The Dallas Morning News."

Gordon was the driving force behind the very successful 2002 launch of Quick, The News' free weekday, quick-read paper created for 18-34-year olds. She served as publisher of that paper for three years.

In her new role, Gordon will form and lead an Innovation Council at the paper comprising representatives from various functions. The Council will develop and prioritize opportunities as well as serve as a resource to internal teams to expedite new product development.

Gordon has more than 15 years of experience in marketing and product development. She began her career at The News in 2002 as managing director of new product development and has assumed positions of increasing responsibilities since then. Previously, she served as vice president marketing and product development at Paris Presents and in several brand management roles at Unilever Home and Personal Care. Gordon holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelor of arts from Northwestern University.
