The Providence Journal Named Nation's Best for Delivery Service of USA Today

PROVIDENCE , R.I. - The Providence Journal has been named USA TODAY's top national distribution partner for 2009. USA TODAY is the nation's largest daily newspaper with print circulation of more than 1.8 million.

"We are delighted with the performance of The Journal in the state of Rhode Island and surrounding areas," said John McGee, vice president of circulation for USA TODAY. The Providence Journal provides "outstanding customer service that is a tribute to the terrific execution by their carrier force. . .and the inspired leadership of the management team."

USA TODAY taps into the delivery services of U.S. newspapers and other distributors to get its publications to subscribers' homes and on newsstands. To acknowledge the outstanding service of its delivery partners, USA TODAY issues annual awards to the top performers within three geographic areas, based distribution size, subscriber feedback and delivery statistics. As a large distributor, The Providence Journal took top customer service honors in both the northeast and the nation.

"This service award is a true testament of the dedicated work, knowledge and experience of our distribution team," said Wayne D. Pelland, Providence Journal's senior vice president of operations. "It's the same quality effort we put behind the delivery of our own newspaper, every day."

The Providence Journal has delivered USA TODAY to homes in Rhode Island and Bristol County Massachusetts since 2008; and on May 3, The Journal will assume USA TODAY's newsstand delivery service in these same areas as well as portions of Connecticut.

In addition to USA TODAY, The Journal delivers The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Herald, Investors Business Daily and Barron's to homes and newsstands; home delivers The New York Times, The Boston Globe and Financial Times; and handles regional newsstand distribution for The New York Post and New York Daily News.
