Providence Journal Summertime Fund Starts 37th Season of Sending Children in Need to Camp
PROVIDENCE , R.I. - Today, The Providence Journal Summertime Fund begins its 37th season seeking monetary donations to help send Rhode Island children-in-need to summer camp.
Last year's Fund raised $66,161 and provided 490 local children, ages 5 to 14, the rare opportunity to experience the enjoyment of a summer day camp.
"Summer camp can be a life-changing experience for these local children," said Howard G. Sutton, president, publisher and chief executive officer of The Providence Journal. "Once again, we call on individuals, community groups and corporations to help us support these deserving children."
The Summertime Fund is a 501(c)3 charity that relies on the monetary donations from individuals some made as family remembrances or in lieu of personal gifts as well as corporate contributions and employee or student fundraisers. The Providence Journal provides administration support as well as in-kind print and online advertising space to promote the fund.
