Children's Holiday Hope Fund Commences with Sixth Season of Giving

Program provides toys, games, hats and mittens to local children-in-need

PROVIDENCE , R.I. - Help shield Rhode Island's children-in-need from the winter elements this year by making a monetary donation to the Children's Holiday Hope Fund. Each year, through the generosity of community donations, the Fund provides hats and mittens for local children who so desperately need them.

The Children's Holiday Hope Fund, a collaboration between The Providence Journal and Pawtucket-based Hasbro, Inc., provides toys, games, hats and mittens to children, ages one through 12, who are under the services of the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (RIDHS) and Rhode Island Department of Children Youth and Families (RIDCYF). Hasbro donates all the toys for the children. Rhode Island Community Action, an organization whose mission includes the elimination of poverty in the state, is the program's distribution partner.

"Imagine stepping out into the frigid weather with no hat or gloves," said Howard G. Sutton, Providence Journal Company publisher, president and CEO. "That would be the reality for hundreds of local children if it were not for the caring people who contribute to the fund."

" For over 28 years Hasbro has provided children in need in Rhode Island with toys and games for the holidays," said Brian Goldner, Hasbro's president and chief executive officer. "We are proud to continue our partnership with The Providence Journal and help families bring hope, warmth and joy to their children this holiday season."

The public can make check or money order contributions to the Children's Holiday Hope Fund by sending them to The Providence Journal, c/o the Children's Holiday Hope Fund, 75 Fountain Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02902. Donations qualify as contributions to a 501(c)3 organization.

Contributions to the Children's Holiday Hope Fund will be published in The Providence Journal every Thursday and will be posted and archived online at projo.com/giving.
